Can I get pregnant while breastfeeding?
Dr. Khyati Choudhary says that mothers who are breastfeeding can also become pregnant. Every new mother should feed the baby at least 8 to 10 times in 24 hours a day for 6 months. However, during this time your fertility is low. But this does not mean that you are not fertile (capable) for the birth of a child. If the breastfeeding mother is not feeding the baby and is giving her supplemental milk, then the chances of the woman becoming pregnant increase.
Is Breastfeeding a Kind of Birth Controller?
In the report, Dr Khyati states that breastfeeding is the healthiest way to feed your baby in the first 6 months. It can also be a form of birth controller. But this is done only in a certain way. When you get your period and then the next period does not come, only then do you know that you are pregnant again.
Signs of getting pregnant while breastfeeding?
According to Dr. Khyati, the production of the hormone prolactin increases in the body during breastfeeding. High levels of prolactin mean reduced fertility. This hormone inhibits ovulation and prevents periods from occurring. Prolactin levels are highest during the night and immediately after waking up. But it is important to remember that ovulation can happen even if you do not experience menstrual flow. Gynecologist should be consulted for breastfeeding and pregnancy related symptoms. If the pregnancy is healthy then you can continue with it. But if there is an abortion or some other kind of problem then breastfeeding will not be advised.
Oxytocin is a major hormone, which helps in reducing milk and also helps in contraction of the uterus. So it would have been important to see how long a mother could continue to breastfeed while she was pregnant. Here are some common pregnancy symptoms to watch out for while breastfeeding. Thirst, tiredness, pain in breast, less milk coming, cramps, nausea, hunger, morning sickness and lump in breast.
What if pregnancy and breastfeeding are to be done at the same time?
According to Dr Khyati, it is important to note that doctors advise women to wait a full year and ideally 18 months to become pregnant again. Because it is the safest and healthy option for their future pregnancy. Getting pregnant before this can create complications in new pregnancies, especially within the first 6 months after the birth of the first child.
