Ingredients for Khichdi
Rice – 1/2 cup
Moong dal – 3/4 cup
Tomato finely chopped – 1
Coriander leaves chopped – 2 tbsp
Onion finely chopped – 1
Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tsp
Ghee – 2 tbsp
Cumin – 1 tbsp
Turmeric 1/4 tsp
Garam Masala – 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida – 1 pinch
Red chili – 1 tsp
Bay leaf
Salt – as per taste

To make Moong Dal Khichdi, first take rice and moong dal, wash them thoroughly with clean water two or three times. After this, soak them in a large bowl for 10 minutes. Now put a cooker on the gas and put 1 tsp ghee in it and heat it. Now put the soaked dal and rice in the cooker. Stir it till the dal becomes fragrant. After this, add turmeric, salt and three and a half cups of water to it. Now mix them well and cover and pressure cook for five minutes. Now heat 2 tbsp ghee in a big pan. Add asafoetida, bay leaves and cumin seeds to it. Now fry them on low flame till the aroma starts coming from the spices.

Now add onion, ginger-garlic paste to it and mix all well. Now add chopped tomatoes and fry till it becomes soft. Now on low flame add turmeric, chili powder, garam masala and salt as per taste. After frying for about 2 minutes, add cooked rice and lentils to it. Then add 1 cup of water and mix well. Cover it and boil it for 5 minutes. Lastly, add 2 tbsp coriander leaves to it. In this way your Moong Dal Khichdi is ready. Serve it with curd.
