Pakistan has recently approved a policy under which 30 percent of the country’s three and four wheelers will be converted into electric vehicles. This will reduce the emission of greenhouse gases.

According to the report of Dawn news, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Climate Change Affairs Malik Amin Aslam presented the roadmap for implementing the National Electric Vehicle (EV) policy to the media after the cabinet meeting on Tuesday. According to the report, Aslam said that the government has set a target of making 30 percent four-wheelers and three-wheelers electric in the country.

For this, the local car makers have already completed 90 percent of the preparations. The minister said that the EV policy will help in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. “Greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles account for 20 per cent of total environmental pollution in developed countries, while in Pakistan it is 40 per cent,” he said.

He also said that the use of electric vehicles will significantly reduce the oil import bill which is close to $2 billion annually. Apart from this, the arrival of electric vehicles will also give a boost to the local car industry and millions of jobs will be created in the country. He said that more than three thousand CNG stations are closed due to shortage of gas.
