Apart from ABS, no changes have been made
Apart from adding Anti Lock Brakes (ABS), no changes have been made to this bike. The Thunderbird 500X ABS is powered by a 499CC air-cooled, single cylinder engine that generates 27.2hp power at 5,250rpm and 41.3Nm torque at 4,000rpm. The 500X itself is quite different from the standard Thunderbird. Some stylish changes have been made in it. The bike gets nine-spoke alloy wheels with bright color scheme, flatter handlebar, colour-coordinated wheel strips and tubeless tyres. A 5 speed gearbox has been given in this bike.
Safety features required for two-wheelers with more than 125cc from April 1, 2019
Royal Enfield started updating its motorcycle portfolio with the introduction of the Classic 350 Singles Edition in August this year. After this, the Classic 500 and Himalayan motorcycles were updated. At the same time, the Thunderbird 350X got ABS feature last month. The safety feature is going to be mandatory in all two-wheelers above 125cc in India from April 1, 2019. At the same time, Combined Braking System (CBS) will be required as a standard fitment in two-wheelers below 125cc. The recently launched Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 have been given dual channel ABS units from the beginning.
